Solar Power Systems for Ports and Terminals
The concept of solar-powered mooring dolphins was first explored in 2013 when a major port authority asked Straatman to find a way to power capstans without relying on cables, particularly for dolphins located in open water. Working closely with the port authority, we developed a solar panel-based solution.
After a successful pilot project in 2014, the design was refined for easier installation and a more compact size. Working lights and navigation lights were also integrated. This second-generation design was adopted by the Port of Rotterdam, and since then, Straatman has delivered solar-powered systems to ports and terminals worldwide.
