Oak Wood in a Nutshell
European Oak (Quercus robur) is a versatile hardwood with a wide range of applications. Its heartwood varies from yellow-brown to dark brown, contrasting beautifully with the lighter sapwood. Quarter-sawn Oak reveals striking “silver mirrors” created by its broad rays, while the ring-porous structure produces a distinctive flame pattern on flat-sawn surfaces. The structure and quality can vary depending on growing conditions, adding to its natural character.

Oak contains a high level of tannins, which can cause metals in direct contact to corrode. We stock an extensive selection of Oak in various sizes and also offer tailor-made solutions for construction timber. While the workability depends on density, Oak is generally easy to machine or hand-tool, and it shows only moderate movement once properly dried.
