Basralocus Wood
Durable hardwood for construction and hydraulic engineering
Basralocus, also known as Dicorynia guianensis, is a tropical hardwood from Suriname and French Guiana. Renowned for its exceptional strength, natural durability, and resistance to decay, it is a trusted choice for hydraulic engineering, bridge building, and other heavy-duty structures. Basralocus is also used in façade applications, including profiles such as Waterwood and Forestlines®.
Hydraulic Engineering and Facade Applications
Basralocus wood, when smoothly planed and optionally sanded, naturally exhibits a subtle gloss. The layering of its rays on the tangential plane is often clearly visible, adding to its distinctive appearance. Its durable heartwood offers excellent resistance to fungal and insect attacks. Thanks to a combination of nutrients and microscopic silica particles (0.5–2.5%), basralocus is typically resistant to pileworm infestation in temperate climates, especially in seawater applications. Darker varieties generally contain higher silica levels, enhancing this natural protection. The wood is also highly resistant to acid exposure.
These properties make basralocus an ideal choice for hydraulic engineering projects, including piles, fenders, jetties, lock gates, purlins, and breakwaters. It is also well-suited for facade cladding due to its attractive appearance and durability. In addition, its acid resistance allows for use in barrels for acidic liquids. In its countries of origin, the lighter, easier-to-work wood is also used for furniture.
Key Features:
