Parallel motion fender

About

Parallel Motion Fenders are custom-engineered systems, typically utilizing Cone Fenders, Cell Fenders, or Element Fenders, though other rubber fender types can be incorporated based on project requirements.

A key component of the system is a torsion arm (lever arm), which connects the back structure—either concrete or steel—to the front steel panel. This arm controls the movement of the panel during fender compression, ensuring it moves strictly in a parallel direction to its mounting surface, regardless of the angle or point of impact.

Each Parallel Motion Fender system is uniquely designed to meet the specific berthing conditions, vessel characteristics, and site requirements of the project. ShibataFenderTeam welcomes your input to engineer the most suitable type, size, and configuration of the system.

Depending on its dimensions, the Parallel Motion Fender system can be supplied pre-assembled for easier installation.

Characteristics
  • Equal energy absorption capacity at any impact level
  • The torsion resistant arm of the system allows only parallel panel movements and eliminates a second ship/panel contact
  • Reaction forces could be substantially lower for back-to-back rubber unit configuration
  • Lower reaction forces lead to lower hull pressures and lighter substructure, which reduces the overall project cost
  • Bulk Terminals
  • Oil & Gas Terminals
  • Ferry & RoRo Terminals
  • Monopiles
  • Load sensitive structures
